Pre-Contract and Contracts Drafting Specialist - Senior Consultant / Associate

Working within a small in house non-contentious legal team which is part of a team of fifteen people within Legal Support. The legal support team provides services such as claims, adjudications, expert witness, dispute avoidance, contract monitoring, contract drafting, contract advice and training.

Job Specification

  • Contract review and advice particularly professional appointments and warranties
  • Contract drafting particularly professional appointments, letters of intent supplemental agreement and frameworks
  • Preparation of tender and contract documents for main/sub contracts (mainly JCT but also NEC, ICE and some international contracts)
  • General legal advice on construction contracts, procurement and day to day legal matters in a construction consultant office 
  • An ability to understand contractual issues, communicate and offer practical advice to construction professionals (particularly quantity surveyors and project mangers) and contractors
  • Management and mentoring of junior legal staff 
  • Project manage contract preparation and drafting to tight deadlines. 
  • Contribute to in-house legal articles and legal training
  • Basic marketing and client work
  • An ability to deal with contentious work such as claims work on quantum, EOT and adjudication would be useful

Skill set

  • Awareness of quantity surveying practice and procedures
  • Understanding of the risks involved in construction and professional services
  • Detailed knowledge of construction professional appointment and contracts (particularly the JCT)
  • Drafting skills and experience of practical problems encountered in such drafting particularly with regards to professional appointments and construction contracts
  • Knowledge of contracts and construction law essential particularly professional appointments
  • Ability to manage and work to budgets and deadlines
  • An ability to be flexible and work on different legal work within the Legal Support Team
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in construction or building but other fields of construction will be considered. Experience in the preparation of claims or delay analysis would be an advantage. 
  • In addition, the person should be comfortable in meeting clients and have experience or an interest in business development.
  • The candidate should be able to produce clear and concise legal documents.

Project Manager (London)

We require a project manager for a role providing high level strategic support for one of our major clients. Our client is a major property developer, with a number of significant development opportunities. They need to turn these opportunities into reality, by structuring the potential project requirements in a form, where a presentation and recommendation to the finance board can be made. Each project is different, and the task is to review the various opportunities, under the direction of our client, and assist him in identifying an order of priority, and a strategy for each of these opportunities. This could include the recommendation of professional teams, guiding them through the initial phases, developing feasibility studies etc. The project manager will be expected to help deliver the feasibility study projects, and in some instances, may be required to manage the projects through to construction and delivery.

The person suited to this role, will have experience in "front end" scheme development and exposure to development management. They will have a background in both mixed use schemes, and urban regeneration projects. We anticipate that they will be able to operate at a direct client interface level, and must have an entrepreneurial approach, with a capacity to add value through experience and intellect.
