corporate responsibility
We recognise that CR has a major influence on our economic, social and environmental impact. Our strategy is one that reflects our ambitions of longer term growth, corresponds with the demands of modern business but ultimately strives to make Cyril Sweett an enjoyable and dynamic place to work.
As a professional services company it is the skills of our staff and quality of the service that they deliver which enables us to develop our business. We define our CR strategy under the four pillars of employee well-being, environment, charity and community, and see increasing the satisfaction and opportunities for our staff as forming the foundations to all our CR initiatives.
employee well-being
Our position as one of the market leaders would not be possible without the dedicated hard work of our staff, which is evidence of the strong employee ownership ethos. We continue to deliver a high quality service to our clients as well as providing a supportive work environment with ongoing career development prospects. We see our CR strategy as a mechanism for boosting morale, fostering team spirit and providing treats for our staff in recognition of our appreciation. Whatever the CR activity, we seek to implement in novel and motivating ways, ensuring that employee well-being is always a by-product to achieving the intended goal.
As a diverse and expanding business we have a huge amount to be proud of and there are hundreds of success stories throughout our business. Our Cyril Sweett Achievement Awards recognises and rewards the great work that is being achieved throughout the world.
environment
The construction and operation of new developments accounts for a significant proportion of global carbon emissions. Hence these are key areas that must be addressed in order to reduce carbon emissions to a level that will have a minimal detrimental impact on the climate and environment. Our business has harnessed the expertise of our sustainability team who have developed a mandatory training programme for all employees. This provides employees with a holistic, background knowledge of sustainability to enable them to address their clients' concerns and requirements in this subject of ever-increasing importance.
We work across the business to ensure our offices are water and energy efficient and we recycle were possible to reduce our waste to landfill. Please click here to read our environmental policy.
charity
Over the past few years we have supported a variety of charitable causes and have undertaken various fundraising activities. We have now set a more focused strategy to help us ensure that our charitable giving has an optimal impact. We recognise that our staff are experts in their field and we have therefore chosen to align our business with a charitable organisation where construction is a key element of their activity. We have formed a corporate partnership with Maggie's who build and operate cancer care centres throughout the UK. A Maggie's Centre is a place anyone affected by cancer can turn to for help by offering information, psychological and emotional support, practical advice and are positioned close to major cancer treatment centres. The alliance will provide a focus for the majority of our fund-raising activities, the opportunity for team building community days and allow staff to apply their skills in a pro bono capacity to help Maggie's progress the development of their schemes. community
We recognise the importance of working with local communities and are working to progress this further, nationally. We see youth education as a potential route for this and are investigating a programme where we can transfer our skills and knowledge, promote the industry, offer unique staff development opportunities and ultimately build strong and long-lasting relationships with youth from a wide-range of backgrounds where learning transpires for staff and students alike.
We support Business in the Community (BITC), an independent outreach charity set up by leading business organisations aiming to inspire, engage, support and challenge companies on responsible business. Through the BITC we have been involved with community volunteering initiatives.
