Describe a typical day in the life of a management consultant
No day is the same and that is what's so interesting about my job. I have worked on many projects with a range of clients from both the public and
private sector.
I worked with Transport Scotland, an agent of the Scottish Executive, to draft a procurement strategy for one of their programmes. For this project I spent one to two days a week working at the client's offices. The commission involved facilitating meetings, liaising with various stakeholders, writing the strategy document and presenting to the Project Team.
What do you like most about working here?
You get rewarded if you work hard. I started at an Assistant Consultant level when I joined and now I'm working as a Senior Consultant, running my
own projects.
It's not just hard work and no play! There are many social events organised and over the past six months, I have been bowling in Russell Square, go-karting in King's Cross; played basketball, gone for a walking tour of Clerkenwell, attended a karaoke night at a Japanese bar in Central London and played softball in Hyde Park.
What exciting projects have you worked on?
Carrying out a sourcing exercise for a client to appoint a Technical Advisor for a major (£150 m) PPP Health project in Scotland, was a particularly
exciting project. My role involved facilitating a procurement exercise to ensure that the process was administered to comply with not just the UK
procurement regulations but Europe-wide procurement rules. This required an in-depth understanding of the regulations and how they apply to the UK, as
well as working with the project team to identify a suitable consultant for the role.
