Describe a typical day for you at Cyril Sweett
"There isn't really an average day at Cyril Sweett. My daily duties range from budgeting and agreeing variations, to material off-site inspections.
Working as a private quantity surveyor, I have more involvement with clients which means that a great deal of my time is spent obtaining value for money.
I have been involved in a variety of projects, both traditional and design and build, ranging from retail developments to listed building refurbishments.
If I'm in the office, I may be preparing estimates for a client, attending progress meetings, preparing tender reports, or carrying out monthly valuations for payment to the contractor. The job is so varied; I could do just one or all of these activities in any given week."
What do you like most about working here?
"I joined Cyril Sweett seven years ago as a trainee quantity surveyor looking for a career in construction. Cyril Sweett was an obvious choice, being an
up-and-coming company with many potential multi-disciplinary opportunities.
I was immediately impressed with their structured training programmes and their ambitious outlook for growth while at the same time promoting a friendly working environment. They offered me university day release in order to gain my Quantity Surveying degree and provided a number of valuable training courses, encouraging and supporting me while taking my APC qualification.
What exciting projects have you worked on?
"The most exciting project that I have worked on is the one that I am currently involved with, the £180m Highcross Quarter retail development
in Leicester. I am the assistant quantity surveyor in a cost consultancy team of four. The project is particularly exciting because of its size and
also because I have had the opportunity to work on the project since feasibility stage. It has a state-of-the-art multi-storey car park, new shopping mall,
and also includes the refurbishment of the existing shopping centre.
