Nick

I joined Cyril Sweett in March 2006 on a part-time day release scheme so I could continue my studies at the university. Once my studies had finished I joined the company on a full-time basis.

Describe a typical day for you at Cyril Sweett
"It is very difficult to describe a typical day in the life of a building surveyor, due to the varied nature of the work. This, however, is one of the main reasons why I chose to be a building surveyor at Cyril Sweett and which I now find one of the most satisfying parts of my role.

What do you like most about working here?
"One of the main reasons I decided to join Cyril Sweett was to develop my career, combined with the opportunity to constantly improve my skills and knowledge of general business practices and building surveying."

The resources that have been made available to me has been essential in improving both my technical and professional knowledge, encouraging me to develop and gain experience quickly at an early stage of my career. This has given me a lot of confidence in the role that I perform. The company uses an excellent, structured review and appraisal scheme that allows me to receive feedback that links into my personal development plan and the company training matrix to sure that I am heading in the right direction to become a chartered surveyor.

What exciting projects have you worked on?
"One of the most exciting projects I have worked on recently involved surveying and advising a client on the sale of 140 properties for a large bank. The work involved producing initial feasibility reports for each property and subsequently separating the areas that needed to be kept by the bank. It was very rewarding to have been involved with making recommendations for the sale of such a large property portfolio that directly influenced the agreed sale for £80m."
